Ukraine has announced the start of mass production for an innovative locally engineered interceptor drone to enhance its air defences. Three initial producers have begun production, with an additional eleven getting ready to set up assembly lines, the defence ministry stated this past Friday.

Advanced 'Octopus' System Tested in Battlefield Situations

The drones will be based on a domestically developed system known as “Octopus” designed to intercept Iranian-made drones. This technology has been tested in actual battle and demonstrated effective “during nighttime, under jamming and at low altitudes,” the ministry stated. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set a target of producing up to 1,000 interceptors each day.

Recent Attack on the Capital Described as Deliberate

Volodymyr Zelenskyy described Russia’s latest attack against Ukraine as “deliberate, calculated and wicked” following six people were killed and dozens wounded in a wave of nocturnal attacks throughout Kyiv. Alert systems activated in the capital just after midnight on Friday, with enemy UAVs quickly detected overhead and heavy machine-gun fire from Ukrainian air defences.

The president stated the nation was hit by 430 drones and multiple missiles. Those killed were at home in an apartment building on Kyiv’s left bank when it was hit. Dozens of additional structures sustained damage, including the Azerbaijani embassy.

Diplomatic Objection Following Diplomatic Compound Destruction

Azerbaijan said it issued a formal objection to Moscow's diplomatic representative on Friday following the embassy damage. The blast from a Russian Iskander missile demolished a section of the embassy’s perimeter wall and caused significant destruction to the diplomatic compound, officials from Baku reported. Russian Aerial Bomb Production Sees Major Expansion

Russia intends to manufacture as many as 120,000 guided aerial bombs in the current year, a senior Ukrainian intelligence official disclosed, among them 500 of an innovative, extended-range model that is capable of targeting more towns and cities. Russian forces were firing hundreds of aerial bombs per day, with last month’s average daily usage being approximately 170, according to official military statistics.

Kyiv's Attacks Focus on Moscow's Oil Facilities

Russia’s Black Sea port of Novorossiysk halted for a period crude shipments on Friday – representing two percent of global supply – after a strike by Ukrainian forces. Military commanders in Kyiv said its military had fired Neptune cruise missiles and deployed multiple kinds of attack UAVs in the assault against Novorossiysk “as part of efforts to reduce the strategic capabilities of the invading force.”

Ukraine additionally targeted a processing plant in Russia’s Saratov region and a fuel storage facility in the adjacent Engels region during the night.

International Restrictions Impact Russian Oil Producer

Russia’s second-largest oil producer Lukoil said on Friday it has been in talks with interested parties regarding its foreign assets following last month’s restrictions from Western nations and the collapse of an agreement with commodity trader Gunvor. “The specific deal are to be disclosed once the final agreements are completed and required authorizations are secured,” Lukoil commented.

Ukrainian President Plans Diplomatic Trip to Spanish Capital

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to travel to the Spanish capital, Madrid, next Tuesday to confer with parliament members a day after his trip to France, Spanish parliamentary officials disclosed. The Ukrainian president would meet deputies from all houses of parliament throughout his stay, the Spanish statement confirmed.
