This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
