The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
