From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
