Fans Demand Arrest of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are urging that a individual who jumped a barrier and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip shows the Australian man pushing past photographers and charging at Grande while the cast walked down a promenade accompanied by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records showed that he was set to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile features recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Several fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
Some fans also questioned security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals demanded online networks to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande seemed startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had congregated in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had waited for as long as eight hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the acclaimed stage musical Wicked, which centers on the unexpected relationship between two very different witches.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of last year in the UK, and received a dozen award recognitions, securing several for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
