Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect behind many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles says farewell to a true visionary whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
